Bedok Town Secondary School 务乐中学 区域: Bedok
On 1 September 1984, the school moved to its new and current premises at Bedok North Street 3 and was renamed Bedok Town Secondary School, with 45 classes (18 Express and 27 Normal classes). Kaki Bukit Secondary was closed technically and a new school identity was forged with new school uniforms, school flag, logo and motto etc. The school adopted a new motto of “Success through Perseverance” to inspire the students to work hard. The school was officially opened on 21 August 1986 by Mr Yatiman Yusof, then Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Member of Parliament for Kampung Kembangan. The first Principal was Mr Mohd Yusuf B HJ Zuhri. Distinguished alumni include Muhammad Imran, a 3-time world silat champion in the 2000s, and Zulkarnine Hafiz, a Young Entrepreneur of the Year and a ‘Malay Icon’ in the Malay community.
In the 2000s, the school had focused on providing a holistic education and developing students to their full potential through a wide range of academic and co-curricular programmes such as Twinning Programme with a school in Zhengzhou, China in 2005.. In October 2007, the school was selected by MOE as one of three NT Mark II schools to be given additional resources and support to pilot innovative Normal (Technical) programmes to enhance the learning experience of NT students. Over the years, the school had achieved MOE Academic Value Added Awards for Normal (Academic) course, Development Awards for Character Development and NE, and Sustained Achievement Awards for Uniformed Groups.
Chai Chee Secondary School was established in 1968 as Sennett Road Secondary School – an integrated school with both English and Chinese medium students, serving the Chai Chee Constituency. The school was officially opened by Encik Sha’ari Tadin, then Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Culture and Member of Parliament for Kampong Chai Chee on 22 May 1969. In June 1970, the school was renamed Chai CheeSecondary School on the recommendation of Encik Sha’ari.
The school started with an enrolment of 804 students and the founding Principal was Mr Albert Tan. In 1973, the enrolment had grown to about 2500 students with 12 ‘floating classes’ in Siglap Malay Primary School in the afternoon, administered by a Senior Assistant. The School Motto was ‘To be Strong, Reliable and Sure of Success’ since 1969 until it was changed to ‘Challenged to Excel’ in 2008. Distinguished alumni include Hamkah Mohd Afik, a national sprint champion; and Najip Ali and Christina Ong, two well known performing artistes.
The school used to be strong in softball and basketball in the 1990s and early 2000s. The school choir had also achieved a Gold award at the 2008 Suzhou International Choral Festival. In the 2000s, the school focused very much on character and values education and launched a series of special school-wide projects. Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, then Minister for Education visited the school in 2006. The school had organized various exchange programmes with schools in China, Japan, Brunei and Malaysia, to enhance students’ learning experiences. This includes twinning with a school in Shandong, China since 2007 and helping to build a library for a village school in Guizhou, China in 2008. The school had achieved MOE Academic Value Added Awards for both Express and Normal (Academic) courses, Character Development Award and Sustained Achievement Awards for Physical Fitness and Uniformed Groups.
